A serious ATV accident in Alakanuk on Tuesday afternoon resulted in an Alakanuk woman dying from her injuries.
A call went in to St Mary’s and Emmonak State Troopers this afternoon at 1:43 pm reporting a high-speed roll-over of an ATV.

When 30-year-old Alakanuk woman, Lois Chikigak lost conttrol of the speeding ATV, it rolled over her causing severe injuries.
Chikigak was taken to the local clinic and a short while later, she was pronounced dead.
Alaska State Troopers via their dispatch stated that alcohol use was suspected in the incident.
Chikligak’s remains are being sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy and next of kin have been notified.
The investigation into the incident is continuing.
Alakanuk, with its approximately 650 people is located at the east entrance of Alakanuk Pass which is the major southern channel of the Yukon river about 162 miles northwest of Bethel. Alakanuk is a Yupik word meaning “Mistake Village” or “wrong way.”
