July 9, 2012, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell has ordered state flags to fly at half-staff on Wednesday, July 11, in honor and memory of former Representative Bruce Kendall. Representative Kendall died Friday. He was 93.

“Representative Kendall will be remembered as a generous man and an exceptional public servant who devoted many years to serving Alaskans,” Governor Parnell said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
Kendall entered public service just after statehood. He represented Valdez in the First Alaska Legislature and represented Anchorage in the Second, Third and Fourth Alaska Legislatures. He was the first Republican speaker of the House in the Third Alaska Legislature. He later served as Governor Walter J. Hickel’s legislative liaison in the 1990s. Kendall owned and operated hotels in Anchorage.
Flags will be lowered on Wednesday and raised to full-staff the following morning.
