Alaska State Troopers received a call from the community of Grayling on Tuesday night just prior to midnight.
It was reported that a man had been shot about a half an hour earlier in the community. The communication to the troopers related that an intoxicated 42-year-old man had been shot by an intoxicated 68-year-old resident of the community at a house on Third Street.
The 42-year-old man was medevaced to Bethel, then on to Anchorage to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The troopers went to the community of Grayling on Tuesday aboard a department aircraft, arriving there at 11:30 am.
After investigating the shooting incident, troopers found that the two men had been drinking at the older man’s home. The younger man later left the residence and arrived back after about a half an hour. After being refused re-entry into the house, the man began throwing un-split firewood through the kitchen window and threatened to burn down the house if he wasn’t let in.
The 68-year-old man then exited the house and confronted the younger man outside. The younger man continued to threaten the older man as well as continued to threaten to burn the man’s home down.

It was then that the older man attempted to scare the other man away by firing a .22 caliber pump action rifle in his general direction. One of the rounds fired into the dark struck the belligerent man.
The troopers found that the men then went to get assistance for the wound.
Troopers have forwarded charges of Criminal Trespass I, Criminal Mischief III, and Assault IV to the Bethel District Attorney’s Office for review.
