“Floating debris” from the missing EgyptAir MS804 was reported to have been located by Greek authorities on Thursday near the island of Karpathos the Greek Foreign ministry announced. But, those earlier reports were inaccurate and reports say that the debris was not from the airliner.

The ill-fated flight plunged from 37,000 feet to 15,000 feet before disappearing from Greek radar on Wednesday.

The families of the passengers, all feared dead, were notified of the discovery. Early reports said that pieces of plastic and lifejackets were found floating in the Mediterranean Sea. An Egyptian Investigation Team is working with their Greek counterpart to locate additional pieces of wreckage. France is sending investigators to Egypt along with a technical expert from Airbus according to Transport minister Alain Vidalies.

Egyptian authorities say that the crash was caused by either a technical malfunction or a terrorist attack, adding that a terror attack was the likelier of the two.

When it went down, it had 56 passengers and 10 crew aboard. It was on a regularly scheduled flight and had left Paris at 11:09 pm GMT bound for Cairo.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
