Anchor Point Troopers reported on Monday that they had stopped a suspicious vehicle for equipment violations late Saturday night on the Sterling Highway.
According to the report, they pulled over a maroon Toyota van near mile 153 of the highway at 10:59 pm.
After stopping the vehicle, troopers contacted the driver of the vehicle, 33-year-old Homer resident David Shaw and found that he had an active warrant for operating a vehicle without liability insurance. Troopers also contacted the passenger in the vehicle and identified her as 35-year-old Tina Prevost of Homer.
While troopers at the scene continued their investigation, Soldotna Public Safety Dispatch received a call of an armed home invasion taking place a few miles north of the scene of the traffic stop.
Other troopers responded to the reported home invasion, but found no such activity at the reported location.
Troopers at the traffic stop would receive a report while at the scene that the van had been reported stolen from a residence in Homer. Troopers then observed Prevost dismantling her phone.
When Soldotna-based troopers investigated the caller number that reported the home invasion, they found that the cell phone had been powered off.
After further investigation and interviews by troopers, they would locate Prevost’s cell phone, and found that her number matched the number that called in the false home invasion report. Troopers determined that Prevost had called in the false report while they were being stopped, in an attempt to pull the troopers off of the traffic stop on the Toyota van.
Both suspects were transported to the Homer Jail where they were remanded without bail pending arraignment. Shaw was charged with Theft by Receiving II and his warrant. Prevost was charged with Terroristic Threatening II and False Report.
