A pilot of a 1956 Piper Pacer was located alive and suffered only minor injuries after the Coast Guard responded to an Emergency Locator Transmitter on Monday night.

According to the report, the Coast Guard received an ELT at 8:14 pm on Monday night that was set off approximately 22 miles west of Ketchikan on Prince of Wales Island.

When the crew of a Coast Guard helicopter located 30-year-old Thomas McIntire of Ketchikan, he declined medical treatment. He was transported back to Ketchikan.

McIntire reported that as he was taking off from the incident location, he did a late abort on the take-off and struck the rocky shoreline. The jolt from the impact set off the ELT. The aircraft sustained damage to its propeller and floats.

The National Transportation Safety Board has been notified of the incident.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
