On Sunday morning in Klawock the Klawock-based State Troopers were notified of an accident at the Hollis Ferry Terminal.
After the troopers responded to the report, their investigation discovered that 29-year-old Klawock man, Richard Shield Jr had been traveling toward the ferry terminal when he found he was unable to stop.

Subsequently, Shield’s vehicle, a 2000 Dodge Pickup truck crashed through the terminal’s fence, continued through the ferry loading area. 126 people and 22 vehicles were in the area awaiting boarding at the time of the incident. Shield’s vehicle finally came to a stop after crashing into two vehicles parked in teh loading area.
Even though there were a large number of people in the area at the time, Shield was the only person to report any injuries.
moderate damage was reported on the two vehicles parked in the loading area, and moderate front end damage was reported to Shield’s vehicle.
Troopers believe that the crash was the result of equipment failure.
