Hollis Man Jailed after Theft Incident at the Inter-Island Ferry Terminal

A Hollis man was jailed without bail by Prince of Wales-based Alaska State Troopers after a vehicle theft at the ferry terminal in Hollis early on Tuesday morning the trooper dispatch revealed.

At 1 am on Tuesday morning,  troopers received a vehicle theft that included criminal mischief from the Inter-Island Ferry Authority in Hollis.

When troopers responded to the scene and investigated the incident, they found that a Hollis man, identified as 35-year-old Kenneth Burchfield, had broken into the secured area of the terminal and stolen a 2010 Chevy passenger van owned by the ferry authority from the yard. When Burchfield fled the area, he drove the van through a locked gate, causing approximately $6,000 damage to the security gate.  When he did so, he also did an estimated $8,000 damage to the van.

Burchfield was located shortly after the incident at his residence. When found, he was observed to be highly intoxicated.

The suspect was placed under arrest for “Vehicle Theft I, Felony DUI (due to two prior DUI convictions in the past ten years), Felony Refusal to submit to a chemical test, Criminal Mischief III x2, Criminal Trespass I, and Driving While License Revoked,” AST reports.

Burchfield was transported to Craig where he was remanded to the Craig jail without bail pending arraignment.
