Eric McDaniel, the subject of what the Kodiak police called the biggest drug bust ever made by that department, was was sentenced on Thursday by Chief United States District Court Judge Ralph Beistline, U.S. Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced on Thursday.
It was on April 19th, that Kodiak police conducted a mid-morning raid on a room at the Russian Heritage Inn in Kodiak and seized nearly two ounces of heroin and a pound and a half of Methamphetamine from room 110.
At that time, police said that the Kodiak street value of the drugs seized were approximately $2.2 million.
Police said that McDaniel, a Washington state resident, had been under investigation by their department since his arrival in Kodiak about four months prior.
Police lured McDaniel from his room at the motel and he was arrested, a search warrant was carried out and the drugs seized. During the raid, Kodiak police said that McDaniel’s girlfriend fled the scene.
McDaniel is known to have had at least seven drug conviction. He was originally charged with MICS II and III and was arraigned in Kodiak Court and his bail was set at $1,000,000.
On September 8th, 2014, all the charges in State court were dismissed, and the U.S. Department of Justice took up the case.
On December 2nd, 2014, McDaniel pled guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute over 500 grams of a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine, and a mixture and substance containing heroin.”
McDaniel was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison in the Kodiak case.
Head of the Kodiak Police Department’s Major Crimes and Drug Enforcement Unit said in a statement, ” Mr. McDaniel apparently thought he could run from his previous drug felony convictions and continue his illegal business here in Kodiak. He was proven wrong.”
