Alaska State troopers, Central Peninsula EMS and life flight Alaska responded to the scene of an accident at milepost 143 of the sterling Highway on Monday shortly after 2 PM.
According to the Trooper dispatch, the investigation at the scene showed that 64-year-old Homer resident Ronald L Roggenbuck was traveling northbound on the Sterling Highway in 2009 Toyota Camry when he attempted to pass to vehicles also traveling northbound. As he was passing the vehicles he failed to observe in 1997 Chevrolet utility van, driven by 44-year-old Homer residents James H Schultz, that was turning into a private driveway along the highway.
Roggenuck’s Camry struck Schultz’s vehicle and both vehicles were forced off the roadway into the southbound ditch. All drivers and passengers in both vehicles reported no injuries with the exception of one passenger in the Camry. That passenger was transported by life flight to Anchorage for evaluation.
Everyone involved in the incident reported that they were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision. Roggenbuck was issued a citation for moving violation.
