The Lizard Squad group took down the Sony PlayStation Network on Sunday evening then took responsibility for the distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. Their attack took down the network for several hours. They posted responsibility for the the DDoS attack on the Twitter page.

This is the third attack on Sony in four months. The Lizard Squad knocked out PlayStation in August of this year using similar methods. Sony Pictures was also attacked a couple of weeks ago, where a massive amount of sensitive information was leaked. That attacked was claimed by the Guardians of Peach.

More attacks are expected. The group said on Twitter, “This entire month will be entertaining.” The Lizard Squad was responsible for the take-down of XBox on Friday.

Another hacking group, Anonymous, has allegedly released a warning to the Lizard Squad saying that if the attacks on XBox and Playstation continue, that they will take action.

In a video purportedly posted on YouTube by the Anonymous group, they said, “If you continue to attempt to attack the gaming communities we will take action against you. What you are doing is wrong. You are taking away the fun and enjoyment of children as well as adults. You have no real reason for taking down their servers. Your only goal is to see how far you get without getting caught. Quit while you’re ahead because the FBI is watching you and they will find you and Anonymous will help and support them. You said your next attack on Christmas Day. We will stop at nothing to ensure that you never attack the gaming communities again. You have been warned. We are anonymous. We are legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Lizard Squad expect us.”

The video was re-posted on the PlayStation Universe this morning. It is unknown if that video is a hoax as it is not posted on the official Anonymous YouTube page. The graphics of this new message are the same as recent messages from the group, but the computer-generated message differs in voice and timber from previous official Anonymous postings.

The outages, that began on Sunday evening, were intermittent for approximately nine hours.
