On Saturday morning, troopers responded to a vehicle belonging to 38-year-old Anchorage resident Kevin Mitchell parked on a trail near mile 87.5 of the Seward Highway, troopers report via trooper dispatch.
They were alerted to the vehicle by a friend of Mitchell’s who discovered the missing Toyota Tundra.
At 9:39 am on Saturday, troopers located Mitchell’s vehicle. Mitchell was not in the vehicle and Mitchell has been missing from his Anchorage residence since September 22nd.
“State Troopers, Wildlife Troopers, Anchorage Police, US Forest Service Law Enforcement, State Parks Rangers, and Alaska Railroad Police responded and performed a hasty search of the area,” troopers say, but were unable to locate the missing man.
More personnel responded to the scene from the Anchorage Police Department Auxiliary and the Alaska Search and Rescue Dogs as well as friends and family, but they still met with no success.
An Alaska Mountain Rescue Group Incident Management Team also went to the scene and assisted with the planning and resources before the search was called off for the night. The search was taken up again today in the area.
