A fire broke out in a home in the village of Nikolaevsk during the early morning hours of Thursday, responders discovered one body in the aftermath of the blaze.
Volunteers from Kachemak Emergency Services and the Anchor Point Volunteer Fire Department, as well as the Anchor Point-based Alaska State Troopers, responded to the fire on the south Kenai peninsula community of Nikolaevsk after the Soldotna Public Safety Communications Center received a call reporting the fire at 3:25 am Thursday morning.
When responders arrived on the scene, they found a single story Ranch-style home fully engulfed in flames.
After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters found the remains of one person in the wreckage.
The remains of the fire victim was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for positive identification.
A State Fire Marshal responded to the community from Anchorage to conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire.
