A section of the Parks Highway was closed for about four hours on Thursday morning following a fatal two-car collision at mile 48 shortly after 9 am.
Troopers received notification of the two-vehicle collision and responded to the scene to investigate. At the scene they said the investigation showed that a 2004 Chevy pickup was traveling southbound on the highway, when it crossed over the centerline and collided with a Dodge Intrepid. The driver of the Intrepid, identified as 81-year-old Vincent N. Jenkins, of Wasilla, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the pickup, identified as 41-year-old Wasilla resident, David L. Fraker, was rushed to the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center with unknown injuries.
Troopers declined to identify the victims of the crash as their investigation is ongoing, and the next of kin for the deceased has yet to be notified.
Troopers say that “During the incident traffic was able to be diverted around the wreck,” and the highway was completely re-opened by 1:15 pm.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
