Palmer Driver Eluding Troopers Caught after Colliding with Tree

Maude Road in Palmer was the scene of a hi-speed chase yesterday afternoon at 12:13 pm when an Alaska Wildlife Trooper attempted to pull over a white 2009 Dodge pickup that was observed speeding at 73 mph in a 35 mph zone.

With siren and lights going, the trooper attempted to stop the speeding vehicle that instead accelerated and sped away reaching speeds of 90 mph. Soon the vehicle had sped out of sight and the trooper stopped pursuit.

But, several other Palmer AST units and the Bureau of Highway Patrol came to  the officer’s assistance and set up a perimeter in the area. It wasn’t long before the speeding motorist was located again on Witherspoon near Maude Road. Again officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle and again the vehicle sped from the officers.

The vehicle continued down Maude Road at high speeds matching his earlier getaway. But, as the driver, who was later identified as 25-year-old Logan E. Barrett, sped  past the pavement break on the road, he lost control of his truck and left the roadway, collided with a tree and rolled his vehicle.

According to troopers, Barrett was transported to the Mat-Su Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Once released, Barrett was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded on charges of Eluding I, Reckless Driving and DUI.
