UPDATE: 34-year-old Anthony Aumua walked into the ACF church in Eagle River and admitted to the homicide that took place on West 29th in Anchorage.
Anchorage police responded to the church and set up a perimeter and also evacuated the church.
But, Aumua gave up peaceably to police and was transported to APD for questioning.
ORIGINAL:Anchorage police revealed today that after a preliminary investigation of an early morning shooting on the 800-block of West 29th Avenue early this morning, it has now turned into a homicide investigation.
When police responded to the shooting report at 4:16 am at an apartment on West 29th, they found an adult male shot dead in the living room. They also found that a group of people were present during the incident.
APD reports that “Multiple people, including witnesses, have been taken into custody for questioning.” Even though they have received inconsistent accounts from those witnesses, they have identified a person of interest in the case.
APD reports that they are seeking 34-year-old Anthony Aumua. Aumua is described as 5’7″ tall and 180 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.
Police also report that a portion of West 29th will remain closed for several hours as Homicide Units collect evidence.
