Remains of Togiak Fisherman Located in Togiak Bay

The  remains of a Togiak fisherman that fell overboard during a salmon opener seven miles southwest of Togiak on Monday have been retrieved on Tuesday troopers report.

According to the trooper dispatch, the remains of 39-year-old Anthony Active were discovered washed up on the beach very close to where he went overboard while checking his setnet in Togiak Bay.

AST reports that Active and one other were checking their net on Monday when Active fell overboard. The person with Active at the site attempted to rescue Active but ended up in the water as well. That man, whose name was not released, swam to shore and eventually managed to wave down another fisherman passing by.

Troopers were notified of the incident at 3:15 pm on Monday.

“Search efforts were started by Troopers and local search and rescue personnel.  United States Coast Guard was contacted and assisted with search by air,” troopers say.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adversal-468×60″]

The search was carried out until 10:30 pm on Monday night then taken back up on Tuesday morning. Searchers located Active’s remains at 112:30 am.

Next of kin were informed of the discovery and Active’s remains were transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy.
