He reported to troopers that he had gone to a residence in Ambler, and upon his arrival, he had been attacked, strangled and beaten by 28-year-old Norman M. Greist of Selawik. He related to the troopers that he had managed to escape from Greist at which time Greist fled the residence.
Troopers responded to Ambler and placed Greist under arrest without incident. Greist was charged with Assault III on a Law Enforcement Officer, and one count of Assault IV on a Law Enforcement Officer.
Alaska State Troopers transported Greist to the Kotzebue Regional Jail where he was remanded pending arraignment.
Troopers have determined that alcohol was a factor in the case.
