Alaska State Troopers say that “alcohol was reportedly a factor” in an early-morning search in the Sitka area that involved Alaska Wildlife Troopers, the Sitka Emergency Response Team and the United States Coast Guard.

Family members called into Alaska State troopers and reported a missing person at 3:38 AM on Tuesday. It was reported that 59-year-old Carl See had called his family and reported that he “was having a difficult time in poor weather” as he was attempting to cross the Eastern Channel in a 15 foot skiff at 1:25 AM.

A vessel from the Sitka Emergency Response launched a search of the area as well and his reported destination, as did a Coast Guard helicopter. Their attempts to locate the missing mariner were unsuccessful.

But, later, Alaska Wildlife Troopers contacted See as he was sleeping in his vessel at a satellite dock, away from his usual mooring area in the Sitka Harbor system.

According to the report, See had returned to the harbor “after poor weather prevented him from reaching his destination.”[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
