Alaska State Troopers and Soldotna police responded to a REDDI report (Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately) near mile 93 of the Sterling Highway after receiving a call at 12:46 am on Sunday morning.
The caller reported that the driver of the vehicle had narrowly missed them in a head-on collision.
When officers responded to the scene, they located the white 1997 Ford described in the report. When they attempted to pull the vehicle over, troopers report, the driver sped off “in a reckless manner.”
After a five-mile race down the highway, the driver of the Ford lost purchase of the highway and became stuck in the ditch at approximately mile 88 of the Sterling.
Officers finally made contact with the driver at that location, and identified the driver as 25-year-old Palmer resident Bradley Sims. Sims was charged with Driving While License Revoked, Driving in Violation of License Limitations, Failure to Stop at the Direction of a Police Officer and Assault III.
Further investigation would find that Sims was under the influence of alcohol and so a DUI was added to the charges. Sims would later refuse to submit to a chemical test and so was also subsequently charged with that offense as well.
Sims was transported to the Wildwood Pretrial Facility in Kenai where he was remanded without bail.
