Spenard Stand-Off Ends with No Injuries

spenard standoffA six-hour Spenard stand-off involving a suspect, Anchorage police units and Anchorage SWAT ended with no injuries at 1:25 am on Friday morning, Anchorage police report.

According to the report, the circumstances leading up to the stand-off began at 5:20 pm on Thursday, when police were contacted and it was reported that a man and a woman were in a verbal altercation in a parking lot on the 3900 block of Northwood Drive in Spenard. According to the complaint, the police were informed that the woman had walked away and the man had gone back into an apartment nearby.

Police responded to the address and would find that the man and woman were in a domestic relationship, and the woman had been assaulted and threatened with a weapon by the man, identified as Dennis Tetsloff, before their altercation moved to the parking lot from the apartment.[xyz-ihs snippet=”adsense-body-ad”]

At 6 pm, police attempted to contact Tetzloff, who was in the apartment, but he refused to come out. By 6:30 pm, police suspected that there were weapons in the apartment when Tetzloff threatened to harm himself and the officers outside. Police continued with verbal negotiations to no avail.

The police department’s SWAT Team was called in, as were assets from the Alaska State Troopers. Troopers, utilizing an armored vehicle assisted in evacuating nearby residents as a safety precaution. Those not evacuated were asked to stay indoors.

Negotiations continued, and at 1:25 am, after negotiations failed, tear gas was deployed in the apartment by police. Following gas deployment, Tetzloff was successfully taken into custody.

There were no reported injuries in the incident.

Tetzloff was arrested and charged with Assault III-DV and Resisting Arrest, he was remanded to the Anchorage Jail.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adversal-468×60″]
