The investigation by the Togiak Village Police Officers found that 33-year-old Paul Markoff of Togiak had assaulted a female on Sunday by means of strangulation. During the assault, that the investigation discovered, took place throughout the day, Markoff made “repeated threats to kill” the victim and “dispose of her body,” the trooper dispatch reported on Tuesday.

Troopers arrived in Togiak on Monday and continued the investigation into the prolonged incident. Following their investigation, troopers transported Markoff to Dillingham, where he was remanded to the Dillingham Detention Center on charges of Felony Assault II and Felony Assault III-Repeat Threat of Death/Injury.

Markoff made his first appearance on the charges in court on Tuesday.

This is just one of the continuous problems going on in Togiak. Problems with alcohol and abuse are continuing to plague this village (and many villages) at alarming rates. As a former teacher of Togiak, it hurts me to see these children exposed to such heinous crimes. I hope and pray that someday soon the community and school can get on board to help address these issues with education.

It mostly stems from parents being to lenient… ” that’s my baby” attitude and not allowing a person to be accountable for their own actions. Allowing adults to be babies makes for very poor decision making because they have gotten away with everything they have ever wanted growing up.

I absolutely agree with you. Kids need to be held responsible and accountable for what they do, instead of the free pass that far too many receive.
