Troopers Arrest Two on Probation/Parole Violations at Traffic Stop

trooperarrestAt 5:05 am on Wednesday, Alaska State Troopers pulled over a blue 2011 Chevy Impala for a moving violation at mile 76 of the Parks Highway near Willow, that traffic stop led to two occupants of the vehicle, the driver and a passenger, being arrested and remanded, the trooper dispatch reveals.

Troopers contacted the driver of the vehicle and identified him as 30-year-old Anchorage resident Phillip Burnell. A check of his background would find that he was outside of his boundary restrictions without permission as per his parole. Upon further investigation, Burnell would be found to be in possession of items he is prohibited from possessing as per his parole.

When troopers queried the identity of a passenger in the vehicle, that person, later identified as 26-year-old Amos Nashookpuk of Anchorage, gave troopers false information to cover up the fact that he was the subject of a felony arrest warrant. That warrant was set for $1,000 for failure to comply with conditions of probation on the original charge of Sexual Assault II.

Troopers arrested both men and transported them to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where they were remanded. Burnell was held without bail. Nashookpuk had his bail set at $1,500 for the new charge of Providing False Information and was held without bail on his probation violation.
