After receiving a call reporting a a vehicle rollover on the Richardson Highway near mile 356 at 2:22 am Wednesday morning, troopers and EMS responded to the scene.
When the troopers and EMS arrived at the scene, they discovered that one of the occupants of the vehicle had been killed in the crash. That male passenger was declared deceased at the scene. Troopers did not reveal the identity of the victim as his next of kin have yet to be notified.
A second passenger was medevaced to an Anchorage hospital for treatment of her injuries. Three juveniles in the vehicle were also transported to the hospital for evaluation of possible injuries.
The investigation at the scene determined that 21-year-old North Pole man, Matthew York had fallen asleep at the wheel and he lost control of the Chrysler minivan, causing it to crash and roll several times.
Troopers are continuing their investigation into the fatal incident.
