Alaska State Troopers arrested a Wasilla man for Vehicle Theft and other charges after a foot chase through the Via Tranquilla neighborhood on Tuesday troopers reported on Thursday.
The search for 31-year-old Ryan Bentley began after troopers received a call reporting a stolen IPhone from an East Quiet Circle residence on Tuesday afternoon. The investigation found that Bentley had taken the IPhone then fled the scene.
Troopers would spot Bentley just over an hour later at 4:23 pm. When found, he was driving a stolen car on Wasilla Fishhook Road near Spruce Avanue, troopers said. But, Bentley wasn’t giving up, he proceeded to take troopers on a car chase. The car chase lasted only about a mile before Bentley jumped from the moving vehicle and fled on foot. AST and an investigator from the Alaska Bureau of Investigations went after Bentley and chased him through the woods and the neighborhood before ultimately catching him.
Troopers report that the vehicle that Bentley jumped from had safely rolled to a stop with no injuries or damage reported. Bentley had tried to disguise the stolen vehicle with a decal/emblem.
The stolen IPhone was recovered from Bentley as was an un-named controlled substance.
Bentley was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and charged with Vehicle Theft I, Theft III,Eluding I, Tampering with Physical Evidence, MICS IV, and Driving with a Suspended Licence. His bail was set at $5,000 and a Court Approved Third Party Custodian.
