Alaska State Troopers rescued a hypothermic man from the side of the Steese Highway on Monday night, the trooper dispatch reports.

AST received a call of a possibly intoxicated man sitting along-side the Steese Highway near mile 48 at 9:43 pm on Monday night. It was reported that the man was wearing wet clothing, was intoxicated, and shivering uncontrollably.

When troopers arrived at the scene, they discovered 40-year-old Chatanika resident, Samuel Foster, in a state of hypothermia. He was “severely frost-bitten”, and “had difficulty speaking’ and “wasn’t able to move on his own,” the trooper dispatch revealed.

Troopers report that they had to carry Foster to the patrol car, then headed towards Fairbanks. The patrol car was met by an ambulance as they progressed to Fairbanks and Foster was transferred to medical personnel at mile 16 of the Steese.

According to the responding personnel, Foster’s body temperature was registered at 89 degrees.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
