Troopers responded to the area near mile 54 of the Parks Highway late Sunday afternoon after receiving a REDDI call on a silver Honda Pilot.
Troopers stopped the silver Honda at approximately 5:05 pm to investigate the call. It was found that the driver, 33-year-old Melissa Schachle of Big Lake was driving under the influence of alcohol. She was charged with DUI.
It was also found that there was a two-year-old child in the vehicle with her. Subsequently, Schachle was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child as well.
After arresting Schachle on charges of DUI and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, troopers investigated the identity of a passenger on board the vehicle. Their investigation revealed that 27-year-old Justin Corns was drinking alcohol in violation of his conditions of release on probation. As a result, Corns was also arrested. He was tranported, along with Schachle to the Mat Su Pretrial Facility, where he was remanded without bail.
Schachle’s bail was set at $1,000.
