Two accidents occurred within minutes of each other in Kodiak on Monday, and troopers pointed to rapidly freezing snow as the cause of both accidents.
Troopers were contacted at 6:15 pm by 27-year-old Aaron Owen, who reported that he had rolled his vehicle at mile 12.5 of the Chiniak Highway as he was traveling northbound, going downhill and negotiating a right-hand turn.
As troopers were investigating the roll-over, passsing motorists alerted troopers of another roll-over a mile away.
Troopers responded to mile 134.5 of the Chiniak Highway, and found that a 16-year-old driver was also traveling northbound and lost control in the rapidly freezing snow. The vehicle, according to the report, spun 180 degrees on the highway, entered the opposite lane of travel and rolled.
