Alaska State Troopers are seeking information as to the identity of a driver that caused a multi-vehicle accident at mile 64.6 of the Seward Highway on Sunday morning.
Troopers responded to mile 64.6 of the Seward Highway where they found two vehicles off the road at 11:44 am on Sunday.
Through their investigation at the scene, troopers found that despite dangerous winter driving conditions that morning, a white truck traveling southbound, attempted to pass multiple vehicles on the highway and while doing so, temporarily lost control of his vehicle on the slippery road surface. The momentary loss of control on the part of the passing vehicle caused 18-year-old Palmer resident Nichole Stachelrodt to lose control of her vehicle as she avoided crashing into the vehicle with the unknown driver.
Stachelrodt went into a spin on the highway and collided with 39-year-old Wasilla resident Norman Anderson Jr, who was driving a 1999 Plymouth van. After impact, Anderson lost control of his van and crossed over into the northbound lane and continued on and crashed into the ditch.
Stachelrodt’s vehicle was inoperable due to damages and was towed from the scene. Anderson’s vehicle was towed out of the ditch and released.
The affected drivers were unable to identify the driver of the white truck responsible for the accident.
Troopers are seeking information as to the driver’s identity and has asked the public with information leading to the identity of the driver or the vehicle to call them at 907-262-4453 as their investigation into the incident continues.
