A call went in to 911 early Monday morning reporting a driver slumped over the wheel with the engine running at a Palmer intersection at 6:08 am.

Troopers responded to the scene at the intersection of East Merrill Circle and South Hay Street to find that a man was indeed “asleep/passed out” behind the wheel with the engine running and the vehicle in gear. The driver, later identified  as 23-year-old Denali Simpson, had his foot on the brake at the stop.

The slumbering Simpson was awakened and transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility. A background check would find that Simpson had his license revoked for a previous DUI, a charge of Driving with a Revoked License was added to the DUI.

Simpson’s bail was set at $2,500 and a Court Approved Third Party Custodian.
