Late Thursday afternoon, the Snowshoe Elementary School in Wasilla was placed on lock-down after report went in to the Alaska State Troopers of a man brandishing a weapon in front of the school.
Troopers, along with Wasilla police responded to the scene on Fairview Loop at 4:59 pm. The investigation there found that 33-year-old John O. Deckard of Wasilla had assaulted several people with the firearm, and had committed the crime of Stalking during the initial incident.
Troopers contacted Deckard at a residence on South Coleman Drive. During the contact, Deckard would discharge “multiple rounds while troopers were on scene,” troopers reported. It was also reported that he had discharged the weapon in an “unsafe direction.”
Deckard was transported to Palmer, where he was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on charges of Assault III x4, Misconduct Involving Weapons IV, and Stalking I. His bail was set at $5,000.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
