(Utqiaġvik, Alaska) – After a day on the 9-hole ice course, “The L3mmings” of Utqiaġvik took home first prize at the 5th-annual Top of the World Golf Tournament on Sunday. The tournament is the northern-most golf competition in the world and is a part of the annual Piuraaġiaqta Festival. Arctic Slope Telephone Association Cooperative (ASTAC) and City of Utqiaġvik (Barrow) hosted the tournament; a total of 19 teams and 56 players took part in this year’s event.
“Holding the Top of the World tournament alongside the City of Utqiaġvik is always a privilege for ASTAC, and we extend congratulations to ‘The L3mmings’ for their win this year,” said ASTAC External Relations Manager Paula Kangis. “Piuraaġiaqta is an exciting Alaskan way to celebrate spring, and we look forward to continuing the tournament as a part of those festivities next year.”
As Tournament Champions, “The L3mmings” – Roderick Miguel, Josh Ledford, and Jayson Soriano – each took home a brand-new Samsung Galaxy S10. The second-place NSB Fire Department Team of Mark Suesue, Viane Vaina, and Maaku Suesue received $500 each, and third-place team “Fore!” of Josh Sabik, Jonathan Hayden, and Lars Steveson each left with a new Series 4 Apple Watch.
