Three Arrested in Stolen Vehicle after Target Shoplifting Incident

Anchorage patrol officers responded to the Target retail store at 100 West 100th Avenue at 9:20 pm to investigate a shoplifting incident that had taken place on Thursday night.

Store personnel reported that the suspect had fled along with a female driver and another male occupant in a white Jeep Cherokee, driving erratically eastbound on West 100th. The vehicle once identified, would find it as reported stolen.

Police arrived and conducted a preliminary investigation and found that an adult male, later identified as 29-year-old Terry A Turner, had walked out of that establishment with merchandise that he did not pay for. He was confronted by a store employee but refused to hand over the merchandise. Instead, he fell to the floor and kicked the employee before getting up, continuing out of the store and climbing into the white Jeep Cherokee.

Patrol officers located the vehicle traveling northbound on the Old Seward Highway and initiated a pursuit as the vehicle attempted to evade while “driving recklessly and swerving across multiple lanes at high speeds, almost striking one of the officers’ patrol vehicles,” APD reported.

The chase would come to an end when the Cherokee pulled in to the Alaska laser Wash at 4724 Old Seward Highway. Officers blocked the vehicle in and ordered the occupants out of the vehicle and they complied. All three, two males and a female were immediately taken into custody.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adversal-468×60″]

The female driver, identified as Michelle J Charlie, age 20, was determined to be driving under the influence after field sobriety tests were performed, and so, was charged with DUI as well as Vehicle Theft I.

Questioning by the property crimes unit would result in 29-year-old Terry A Turner being charged with Shoplifting, Assault, and Violating Conditions of Release in a previous June assault case.

Police identified the third occupant of the vehicle as Osum Griffin, age 35, and would find that he had violated his conditions of release in a June Assault/Theft/Criminal Mischief case.

All three were transported to the Anchorage Jail and remanded there on charges.
