Troopers believe that alcohol was a factor in a two-vehicle, head-on collision that took the life of one and seriously injured another early Sunday morning.
Troopers responded to the collision at mile 37.5 of the Glenn Highway at 2:28 am on Sunday morning. When they arrived on-scene, the driver of a 2015 GMC Sierra, 73-year-old Gary L. Saloka, was pronounced deceased. A passenger in the Sierra sufferd serious injuries, and was transported by LifeMed to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.
The investigation conducted on-scene would determine that as Soloka was traveling northbound in his Sierra, a Volvo XC90, traveling southbound, crossed thew centerline and collided headlong into Saloka.
The State Medical Examiner’s office responded to the scene and took possession od Saloka’s remains, and his next of kin were notified of the incident.
