Fort Wainwright issued a press release this afternoon reporting that the base is experiencing a power outage post-wide and promises to release new information as it comes available.

In addition, the Army informed the public that access to the base is limited and that the visitor center is temporarily closed, as is the physical fitness center and the commissary and exchange. The base also states that the Trainor Gate is closed unttil further notice.

They are asking that residents to please conserve heat by keeping windows and doors closed as temperatures are still cool.

Traffic lights are currently inoperable, so the base asks that drivers be courteous and alert at all stops and to obey direction from military police.

The press release states that the Directorate of Public Works as well as Doyon is trouble shooting the problem and new information will be released as the situation merits.
