Weekend Kasilof Cessna Crash Takes Lives of Two

image08-04-2015 09.03.54Alaska State troopers traveled to an aircraft crash site on Saturday after the Soldotna dispatch received multiple calls reporting the crash in Kasilof at 8:11 PM on Saturday evening.

When Central Emergency Services and Soldotna-based troopers traveled to South Cohoe Loop Road and arrived at the scene at 3.2 miles down that road, they located the downed Cessna 180 in the woods nearby. When they arrived the aircraft was still on fire.

According to troopers, after the burning aircraft was put out, two bodies were discovered in the wreckage. Brian Nolan, age 69, and passenger, Peter Lahndt, age 57, both of Kasilof, were both declared deceased at the scene, and next of kin were notified.

According to witnesses at the scene, the aircraft went down after suffering apparent engine trouble.

The National Transportation Safety Board also responded to the scene and are currently investigating the case.
