Alaska State troopers were notified of a structure fire in Kwethluk during the early morning hours on Monday, the trooper dispatch reported.
Bethel-based AST received a call at 5:52, reporting a fire with a fatality in the small community in southwest Alaska. Troopers say that Public Safety Officers in the village had brought the fire under control and had discovered the remains of one inside.
Two troopers out of Bethel and a Deputy Fire Marshal responded to the scene later in the day. Troopers have yet to reveal the identity of the victim. The remains have been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy and positive identification.
