Anchor Point State Troopers were patrolling Diamond Ridge Road above Homer at 2:07 pm on Wednesday afternoon when they observed a driver who they knew to have a suspended license speeding in a green GMC Pickup on the winding road.
When troopers attempted to perform a traffic stop on the vehicle, the driver failed to stop and took the troopers on a lengthy pursuit through a residential area on a gravel road. After chasing the vehicle for an extended period of time and searching for the vehicle, troopers eventually found the driver, identified as 27-year-old Homer resident Gavril Konev.
Checking APSIN, troopers verified what they had already known, Konev was driving with his license suspended, they also found that he had conditions of release for several other suspended drivers license violations.
When Konev’s vehicle was searched, troopers discovered controlled substances in the vehicle.
Konev was subsequently arrested by the troopers and charged with Eluding I, Reckless Driving, Driving w/License Suspended, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance IV, and Violating the Conditions of his Release.
Troopers transported Konev to the Homer Jail where he was remanded without bail.
