Trooper dispatch reported that on Sunday morning at approximately 5:10 am, Kodiak Police took up a car chase in an attempt to stop a fleeing vehicle in the edge of Kodiak.
The pursuit would be short-lived however. Kodiak Police abandoned their pursuit because of icy road conditions shortly after initiating it.
KPD would soon find the vehicle again however. The vehicle, now abandoned, was found near the Pillar Creek Reservoir area. The chase would be taken up once again, this time with a K-9 brought in to assist. The K-9 would successfully track and locate the passenger from the vehicle, described only as 23-years-old.
Initial efforts to locate the driver was unsuccessful however. Alaska State Troopers responded to assist KPD in their manhunt. Using a handheld Forward Looking Infrared camera, or FLIR, the troopers efforts were also unsuccessful and Alaska Wildlife Troopers were brought in to help with the search.
WIth the Wildlife troopers help, troopers would eventually locate the suspect driver in the woods with the use of the FLIR. But, the unidentified suspect was not ready to give up and fled the scene once again.
Authorities would track the suspect for another hour and a half before capturing him. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Kodiak Police Department and turned over to KPD.
The driver faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges in the incident.
