Troopers responded to an ATV accident involving a man unconscious and not breathing after a call went in to MATCOM late Saturday evening.
Troopers, EMS, and Fire Department members responded to South Horseshoe Lake Road in Big Lake to the accident location to find that the driver of the ATV, 25-year-old Ryle Amberg, suffered a life-threatening accident. EMS attempted to administer life-saving methods, but their attempts were unsuccessful. He was declared deceased at the scene.
According to the trooper investigation, Amberg had been riding a Yamaha Rhino Side-by-Side ATV when he encountered a metal gate arm. Amberg did not see the gate arm until the last minute and in an attempt to avoid it, turned sharply. When he did so, he lost control of the ATV and it rolled.
Although the ATV was equipped with seatbelts, Amberg was not utilizing them at the time. When the vehicle rolled, it came to rest on Amberg after he was partially ejected. It was reported that Amberg was not wearing a helmet as well.
Trooper believe that alcohol played a factor in the accident.
The investigation into the incident is continuing.
