HEADQUARTERS, U.S. ARMY ALASKA, JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska – U.S. Army Alaska will host a Cold Regions/Military Mountaineering Collaborative Training Event again this year from March 21-24 at the Black Rapids Training Site, home of the Northern Warfare Training Center.

This will be a collaborative training event that brings together military professionals from around the globe whose primary purpose is the planning, training and execution of military operations in extreme cold weather and mountainous environments.

Participants will stay at the Black Rapids Training Site, and representatives from each nation will give a presentation on their military’s relevant training, standards and methods for operating in cold weather and mountainous environments. Participants will also take part in skiing, snowshoeing, pulling ahkio sleds, setting up Arctic tents, snow machining and other related activities.

International attendees scheduled for the event include representatives from the Canadian Forces Land Advanced Warfare Center, the Chilean Army Mountain School, the Finnish Jaeger Battalion, the German Gebirgsjager Mountain and Winter Warfare School, Great Britain’s 24 Commando, the NATO Mountain Warfare Center of Excellence in Italy, the Slovenian Multinational Centre of Excellence for Mountain Warfare and the Swedish Winter Warfare School.[xyz-ihs snippet=”adsense-body-ad”]

U.S. partners attending this year include representatives from the U.S. Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, the 5th Ranger Training Battalion, the 10th Mountain Division, the 1st Special Forces Group Advanced Skills Company, the 10th Special Forces Group and the Alaska National Guard.

U.S. Army Alaska is the Army’s extreme cold weather mobility, training and equipping proponent, the Army’s only conventional force trained and equipped to do this. The Northern Warfare Training Center is the epicenter of USARAK’s extreme cold weather survival and mobility training.
