A caller called in a REDDI report to the Fairbanks State Troopers at 7:05 pm on Tuesday evening. The call came in from a motel on College Road in Fairbanks.
The caller reported that an intoxicated man, who was later identified as 42-year-old Fairbanks resident George Claffy, had gotten into a verbal altercation with several people at the motel, then left the premises in a small, green car. The caller was not able to give troopers any information as to the direction that Claffy went.
Troopers patrolled the area in an attempt to apprehend Claffy, but were initially unsuccessful. Then, another REDDI report was called in, reporting a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle Claffy left the motel in. The vehicle was seen traveling through Fairbanks, running several red lights. But, Claffy still wasn’t located by authorities, and remained at large.
Then, at 8:05 pm, the original REDDI caller at the motel on College Road called back in to report that Claffy had returned to that location. Troopers responded to the motel and were able to contact Claffy in the parking lot. The ensuing investigation would find that Claffy was driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a revoked drivers license. Claffy was transported to the Trooper Post, where he was read the implied consent warning. After being read the warning, Claffy still refused to provide a sample of his breath.
Troopers transported Claffy to the Fairbanks Correctional Center where he was remanded on charges of Felony DUI, Felony Refusal, and DWLR.
Claffy is being held without bail until arraignment.
