Mountain Village was the scene of what seems an unfortunate accident on Monday afternoon where a young girl was shot to death.
Names of those involved have not been released by authorities, but on Monday afternoon, state troopers responded to Mountain Village from St Marys for a report of a shooting.

The trooper investigation revealed that a young eight-year-old boy was playing with a Ruger 10/22 that he used the day before to go hunting, when his younger five-year-old sister was shot, killing her, according to the trooper dispatch. The girl had only been home for a short time before the incident occurred.
The investigation into the incident is in its preliminary stages still today. No further information is available.
Information on the case have been forwarded to OCS and the District Attorney’s Office.
The young girl’s remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy.
