KGB Road Crash takes Life of Young Wasilla Woman

Troopers responded to and investigated a fatal two-vehicle collision on Knik Goose Bay Road on Tuesday morning.

When AST arrived on the scene, they found a young woman, 20-year-old Payton L. Petersen, had died at the scene. The investigation, that closed down KGB Road for a time, found that Petersen had been traveling outbound at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her 2007 Ford Focus and skidded into oncoming traffic.

Petersen collided with an oncoming 2006 Chevy truck driven by 52-year-old Michael Moritz of Wasilla. She was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.

Moritz was transported to a local hospital for evaluation of his minor injuries.

Petersen’s next of kin were notified of the incident.
