On Wednesday evening, a 911 call went in to the Soldotna Alaska State Trooper dispatch reporting a vehicle rollover on the Kenai Spur Highway.
Troopers arrived at the scene at 9:58 pm at mile 21.2 of the Kenai Spur Highway near North Miller Loop. EMS arrived at approximately the same time, and the driver of the maroon 2000 Ford Mustang, 30-year-old Christopher Overhuls, was discovered to have sustained serious injuries in the accident. Subsequently, Overhuls was flown to Providence Medical Center in Anchorage for treatment.
The Bureau of Highway Patrol arrived on scene and took over the investigation of the crash.
It was discovered in the investigation, that Overhuls had been traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway, rolled over and crashed through the fence at the old agrium plant at that location.
The crash did not affect traffic and the road remained open even as the Bureau of Highway Patrol conducted “Total Station” at the site. Total Station is a technological tool used to document the scene of crashes that result in serious injury or death. The technology utilizes CAD software to map the scene in a three dimensional diagram.
The investigation into the crash is continuing.
It was reported that Overhuls was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
