On Wednesday morning while on the Wasilla-Palmer Highway, two vehicles collided head-on resulting in hospitalization for both drivers.
Alaska State Troopers responded to a call reporting the collision that they received at 10:56am on Wednesday.
At the scene, troopers secured the area as Emergency Response personnel extracted 22-year-old Palmer resident, Kyra Swinehart from her 2007 Chevy Impala. After extraction, Swinehart was transported by LifeMed helicopter to Providence Medical Center for treatment of her severe injuries. She is listed in critical condition there.
The other driver, 23-year-old Nicole Tanurdzic of Palmer, was transported by ambulance to the Mat-Su Regional Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
The troopers investigation at the scene revealed that while traveling eastbound on the highway near the Cottonwood Creek Bridge, Tanurdzic lost control of her 2004 Ford Ranger and the vehicle fish-tailed and while doing so, slid into the on-coming lane, where her vehicle impacted Swinehart’s vehicle head-on.
The highway was closed until about 3 pm on Wednesday.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and airbags deployed. The two drivers were the only occupants of the vehicles.
