New details released by Alaska State Troopers have identified the pilot that died in the Willow crash on Wednesday and released additional details into the crash.
Troopers have released the name of the pilot as that of 24-year-old Colt Richter. Richter was piloting a Beaver for Regal Air when he went down shortly after takeoff from Willow Lake.
Richter was transporting cargo and a 30-year-old mother and her 2-year-old child to FBI Lake in the Skwentna area when he crashed into a wooded part of a residential area shortly after take-off.
The aircraft caught on fire following the crash. A resident in the area, as well as a passerby, helped the mother and child from the aircraft.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adversal-468×60″]
Fire personnel responded to extinguish the burning de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver and the resulting wildfire sparked by the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the cause off the crash.
