A missing person investigation was initiated on Tuesday evening at about 9 pm for a Tonsina woman missing since the night before.
61-year-old Tonsina resident Linda Poplin was reported missing by her friends on Tuesday. They reported that they had been drining with the woman the night before at her home. They also reported that the woman had been highly intoxicated that night. Concerned that they could not find her on Tuesday, her friends reported her missing at about 7 pm that evening.

The Alaska State Troopers conducted a search of the immediate area without success.
Further assistance was requested from MATSAR K9 PAWS. They were to arrive at 5 pm on Wednesday to begin their search.
The Alaska State Troopers coordinated a search effort on Wednesday morning with community volunteers and the Kenny Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
After searching for most of the day, and before the PAWS arrival, a local volunteer found Poplin’s body partially visible underwater. She was trapped under a log jam in Squirrel Creek near her residence.
Poplin’s remains were recovered by troopers and she was identified using her DMV photograph.
The body was transported to the Crossroads Medical Center in Glennallen to be transferred to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorag for autopsy.
There was no evidence of foul play at the scene.
