Seized Car Crashes through Gate, Escapes from Fairbanks Impound Yard

In their dispatch on Tuesday, troopers reported that on Sunday morning at 3:28 am, a van that had been impounded, crashed through a gate and escaped.

The van had been impounded approximately 18 minutes earlier by University police in Fairbanks for expired tags, according to the dispatch. But, the 1983 Chevy van, license plate EUS326, did not stay long before crashing out of the Badger Towing impound yard.

The surveillance video at the yard showed the chey van coming into view in the vicinity of the gate driving at high speed in reverse, crashing through the gate, and impacted four other vehicles before speeding from the scene.

The video did not show the face of the driver. It is believed that someone may have been hiding in the van when it was impounded and remained secreted there until the coast was clear to make good their getaway.

Troopers are asking the public to come forward and call them at 451-5100 if they have information on the vehicle.
