Severely Beaten Dog Lands Soldotna Owner in Wildwood

animal abuseA Soldotna man was arrested on Animal Cruelty charges on Wednesday following a report of a loud  disturbance at a residence on Snowflake Court, the trooper dispatch revealed on Wednesday night.

When troopers responded at 2:54 pm, and investigated the incident, they discovered  that 44-year-old Soldotna resident, Samuel Stroer “had used a large metal pipe to beat his Labrador/Pit Bull mixed breed dog unconscious after it had growled at him,” troopers stated. Troopers say that then Stroer took the unconscious canine to his garage, where it woke up and became aggressive. That is when Stroer began beating the animal again, this time with a 2×4 with a screw protruding out of the end of it. He beat the dog so savagely, that the 2×4 broke, according to the report.

Alaska State Troopers took the severely injured canine to the Soldotna Animal Hospital. Upon arriving there “it vomited a large amount of blood onto the floor. The veterinarian treating the dog advised that he would have to be euthanized,” the trooper dispatch reported.

Stroer was placed under arrest, charged with Animal Cruelty, transported to Kenai where he was remanded to the Wildwood Pretrial Facility.

As of Thursday, he remains in custody.
